I have arrived finally in Kenya!

The flights were decent, the waiting tooo long though.  We first stopped in Kisumu for the night and stayed in a hotel....probably the worst sleep I've had in a long time.  The room we were in was right next to the common room and they had the TV on loud for most of the night.  I kept feeling as though bugs were biting me....but I think it was all in my head.

In the morning we headed to Rongo were I will be staying for the next 6 weeks.  Now the roads in Kenya are interesting.  About 12 years ago the new Kenya President decided he would no longer have maintenance for the roads....and since then you can imagine the decline.  I couldn't tell you what side of the road you are supposed to drive on because you just choose the path of least resistance....which might also include the "sidewalk"

The Okidis, the family I am staying with, are very kind and taking good care of me.  The food is decent....but I'm already missing my Dad's cooking.  I've been sleeping with earplugs cuz the nights are noisy with dogs barking, people snorring and roosters crowing.

My first day in clinic was insane.  We arrived a little before nine to a huge line of people already waiting to see us.  The day passed by in a blur.  I saw everything.....a boy who had a surgery to fix his leg into extension.....a baby who couldn't walk and we put casts on to fix a deformity.......lots of post polio syndomes....etc.  You are basically a Doctor here and sign referrals and do anything you can.

E-mail isn't the best here so the best way to get a hold of me is to call or text my cellphone (which I share with Marianne and receive calls and texts for free) 011254734172594.  It also only costs my like one cent to text back, but I don't know how reliable it is.

I'm not sure how often I'll be able to update this from now on, but I'll try my best!  Pictures will have to wait till I get back though.  I love you all and thank you for all the wonderful birthday wishes!!!!

Hi Leana
Send more pictures about Rongo. I adopted a village in Rongo and I am sponsoring a child center and a women group. Would you be interested in visiting the children center. It is less than half mile from Rongo center.
