Started out my day by visiting Wild Wadi Waterpark Kingdom with some people I had met on the Safari.  Park was fun but nothing out of the ordinary.

Ate some schwarma.....mmmm

Felt adventurous later in the day and decided to go to Karama, the backstreet part of Dubai home to the lower income expat community.  This area had been recommended to me for some bargain shopping.

When I told the cab driver where I was headed he looked at me with raised eyebrows....."Why you go there, is nothing nice, Burjuman center much better."  Burjuman center is a high end mall with every expensive designer you can think of.  I tried to explain that I have malls like that back home and wanted to see the real Dubai....he just shook his head and shrugged his shoulders.

Karama resulted in my first experience bargaining in Dubai.  I was at a small stall looking for sunglasses.  I would have to say that I'm not the best bargaining....I can't suppress a smile when they tell me their first price and then I start to giggle when I tell them my counter offer.  But I still manage to get the sunglasses I wanted for 30% less then the original offer (though I'm sure I could have got them for much less).  The shop keepers are charming and follow you around the stores showing you every little item....."Special price for you, good discount."  I would have loved to keep shopping but it was dark out and hot so promising to return another day I left.
