We arrive in Nice a little tired, cranky and stinky. Fortunately, the train station has some decent, cheap public pay showers that help lighten our moods. We lock up our bags and head outside to beautiful, sunlit mountain sides surrounding blue waters. It's a perfect little break. We buy a couple of mats and head down to the beach front to relax for a few hours. Best, and strangest, thing about beaches are there is no sand.... only small rocks and pebbles. The water is cool but refreshing.... it's just nice to have a day where we don't have to do anything and can lounge around on a beach. We wander along the water, stopping at a beachside cafe for a big, but light, lunch. We head back to Blue Beach (I think) and rest up a for a couple more hours.
We take a small train to Monaco and walk around the city a bit but are limited by time, energy and locale - plus our map is crap. What I wouldn't have given for a quick stop in the Casino... The views are spectacular, including million dollar homes built into the mountains overlooking bright, clear blue waters. It's all so incredible. We take our time heading back to the train station once again and get our quick shopping fix. We are lucky to have reserved our sleeper car before our trip began as the train is well over-booked (mostly with students) and will be crowded in the standard cars. Strange thing was our 6 person sleeper car was only occupied by the two of us - though another American student crashed (with our permission) as he was stuck in a seat for the night. We enjoy our quiet night on our way to Spain.
