I did make the ferry in Skagway. The drive went through beautiful country with one incredibly green lake, green I've never seen before in a lake. We wound through passes and another border crossing before reaching Skagway.

We had half the day to wander around Skagway. I shopped a bit then found a trail to hike with Keesha.

After a short hike, we stopped at a stream boiling with spawning salmon. Keesha wanndered in to drink then caught a glimpse of something moving. Her ears went back and she stretched out her neck and cocked her head, staring. One paw slowly moved forward.

The next paw crept after the first as she stalked the salmon. She did not try to catch one but another husky with us in the stream tried!

On board the ferry, Keesha tamped down her bed in the car and sighed into her ferry nap and I headed up to watch for whales. A little pod of three humpback whales swam on the port side of the vessel--two adults and one calf. Their humps glided in and out of the smooth water leaving soft ripples on the surface. A blast of bubbles and air sprayed up as the first whale huffed a breath then dove. The other adult spouted soon after, then the calf. The three played a rhythm of breath as we watched them glide past. In a parting gift, the bull and cow heaved high and dove deep, their two large finned tails turned skyward and as they plunged into the depths. A few seconds later a smaller tail followed as the calf followed them into the sea.
