Home Again- Stranger with a door key

Culture shock. They tell you about it but its not until you experience it for yourself that you really can understand it. I traveled the world over and didn't really experience culture shock, but when I get back home it hits me like a wave. Everything at home is same same....but different... the Vietnamese knew what they where talking about....

I went to Appalachian and then to Chapel Hill to see my friends a day after being home to see them before they all left for the summer. I was great to see them all but I must admit it was strange. Things there were the same things had happened but I didn't understand that I thought that things all around me were different everything had somehow changed and I realize that things hadn't changed, I had changed. I didn't really see how I had changed until I came home. It's the little things I see differently now, it just all feels familiarly distance and foreign to me. Sitting in my room I am surrounded with so many things a closet full of clothes, drawers with clothes for months, things surround me. Why do I have so many of these things? Why do I need 30 pairs of shoes, and 4 hairbrushes, I know these might seem like insignificant things to notice but that is exactly it, it's the little things that add up to this nonsense. Who ever said that we needed all these material goods for happiness? When did these actions of consumption become normal and disguised as truths? Home will never be what it was before, trust me its of the better.

I feel trapped between the world I had just seem and left behind and this old new world of home. I look back on the past couple of months and random memories I have already forgotten about keep popping into my head and make me smile or laugh or sad, and I miss my discovery desperately. Maybe that's why after being home for 2 days I bought a plane ticket to Costa Rica. Me once being the most planned out scheduled person bought a plane ticket online after a decision formed and made in 2 minutes. I am backpacking in Costa Rica for a month next week and keeping the adventure alive. I am leaving with nothing but a tent and a plane ticket, and the rainforest to sleep it, it will be quite the adventure. I have tasted the world and I am left with nothing but a thirst for more more more.........
