Where I stayed
What I did
Mount Airy
Today was spent off the Park way at Mount Airy
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Airy,_North_Carolina
Most notable for being the town used in the Andy Griffith Show
http://youtu.be/_RsX2lFbI1o
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Andy_Griffith_Show
The actor Andy Griffith later went on to be the main star in Matlock

A Clip from Andy Griffiths show below:

We visited the small town which survives on the conection with the long running US Series, visiting the Museum dedicated to the show, we then ate a famous Snappy Lunch

The Pork Sandwich takes some explaining, its one of those things you have to do once in your life.
We then visited the Mount Airy Museum, which was four floors of history of the area, including examples of the Fire Trucks from the town and two model T Fords on the top floor.
Finally we spent a couple of hours at the 40th Annual Blue Grass and Fiddlers Convention
http://www.mtairyfiddlersconvention.com/
This is an annual event in Mount Airy which lasts a couple of days, where musicians compete against each other.
A real chance for us to explore the North Carolina culture, and for some locals we were as much of a novalty as what we saw. Tomorrow we continue our travels down the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Lots of Love
