Where I stayed

All I can say is thank goodness Lee got us a beautiful hotel (on Altitude points!) adjoining the air-conditioned Mall of the Emirates.  With 40 degree’s heat it is sweltering walking anywhere!  It evidently gets to 50 degree’s over the next couple of months - I wouldn’t like to be here then.  The Pullman Hotel has not long opened and the breakfast which is included is one of the best I have experienced.  I even had salad for breakfast as I am not sure how much salad I will be eating in Europe at the moment with the e coli breakout.  The swimming pools are on the top floor with a great view of the Burj AlArab - it has been great swimming again after leaving winter in Brisbane.

We have had a great day doing a city tour in a 4WD with a guide and driver (just Lee and I).  Seeing such sights as the Sheikhs palace with peacocks doing a dance for us, Dubai Museum, Gold Souk, Old Dubai, the Creek, Dubai Beaches, the Burj AlArab and Atlantis the new city.  Our guide was great and we got a lot of information.  It is amazing that there are no taxes, and the government pay for everything - metro, road systems...  All houses are leased from the government or building investors - which is why Dubai is made up of 80% foreigners - if you can stand the heat, you could save a bit of money here I am sure.

This afternoon we caught the air-conditioned metro to Burj Khalifa the tallest building in the world (and the fastest lift)  What an amazing view, we waited on the 124th floor and watched the sunset.  A little hazy, but still an amazing view.  So many new buildings still under construction - and so much sand!!  We also went to the aquarium tunnel in the nearby Dubai Mall which is awesome and then the aquarium zoo - Ollie would have loved it!  They certainly know how to spend money here.  The fountains in front of the mall and the Burj Khalifa were even more extravagant than what we saw at Las Vegas.  Tomorrow we plan to do the must - Desert Safari - looking forward to another hot adventure!!

Hi guys, good to hear you are enjoying the sights! It sounds an amazing place. Apparently we have a very cool change on the way, with more snow predicted - hard to imagine you are sweltering.
