Well, I've sort of blown the budget on a wicked pair of pants. Oh well.
We stayed out until about 4am in the morning in some seedy little club we found down in the village- fantastic music and the booze was flowing, but the gogo dancer looked like he was bored. Thankfully Lawrie managed to get me home alright- I was fairly much smashed off my tits.
Slept in and then off we went to the Statue of Liberty. Very impressive. Have now fairly much done all of the touristy things we were wanting to do- go up the Empire State Building, visit the Statue of Liberty, went through Central Park, visited Strawberry Fields, visited Times Square, and sussed out the village.
I STILL haven't found a decent coffee- everywhere you go it's INSTANT coffee!! Even in restaurants, which is just totally bizarro.
Also, people (most, not all) who work in service industries here seem to REALLY resent it- good service in stores and restaurants is very hard to come by. I think the most outrageous example was the girl who worked in a cafe we went to that kept pointing to the menu board when the lady she was serving had already told her she was BLIND!!!
All said and done though, it's been a lot of fun. We have only met one person on our trip though (Laura in Vegas) who knows where Australia is! It's a huge frigging continent, and they keep thinking we are part of Europe!. I even drew a map for someone, and they STILL didn't know where Australia was. Seems to be a big lack of world knowledge, here. But even that has been something for us to laugh about. Our holiday has been an incredible amount of fun.
Now we're off for a bite to eat and then home for much needed sleep, because tomorrow I turn 30 :-( and we're off to Fire Island early to "celebrate".
