After taking an opportunity to have some lunch at Pompeii we headed to
Naples where we were treated to a panoramic tour of the city. We visited the royal palace which was the principal residence of the Kingdom of Naples (prior the unification of Italy), a costal fortress that protected the city from dangers in the Bay of Naples and some of the key sites of the city centre; although it was interesting, for me it at least, it paled in comparison with the time we had spent in Pompeii. Bidding Elvira farewell we drove back to Rome where we joined our fellow pilgrims for one last meal before everyone continued on to their holidays or returned home to Australia.
