Where I stayed
Overnight train to Sapa
We head out to find the Hanoi Hilton ...the prison where John McCain was held. It's a bit of a walk from our hotel (which is near a lovely lake in the middle of the city). We make a detour through an alley market that sells all kinds of fruits, veg, meat...including roast dog. Yes, we have pictures...but you'll have to wait on those.
We find the prison and it's definitely been cleaned up...and a large portion of it was torn down to create an office building. The information within the prison is interesting and politically entertaining.
We wander out toward the University and check out the Temple on its grounds and chat with a guy who is working on his english and has one year left on his engineering degree.
We wander off in search of food. We walk a LONG way....and end up at a whole in the wall restaurant where we have a great noodle dish. As usual, we're the only foreigners in the place. They're misisng out on some great food!
We continue to wander through the Old Quarter, around the Lake and back to the hotel to cool off, rest and Internet. The heat and humidity is exhausting.
Tonight we get on an overnight train to Sapa in the mountains. Here's hoping for cleaner air...the smog is killing my eyes.

Roast Dog
OK, Randy and Ruby are pacing a bit now that I told them we might take a little trip to Vietnam; of course that is ONLY if Randy chews up my $300 glasses again- perhaps they are cheaper in SE Asia- glasses, not dogs.
xo,
