We got up fairly early to go down and get on the boat trip out to the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Managing the subway very well (if sweating a lot) we made it down to Battery Park and bought tickets. Then we went to go get in line. It was apparant there was a LOT of people having the same idea as us, but since it hadn't been too long since we'd been to NYC and we'd done a lot of the other things we had wanted to do already, we were committed to waiting for the tour. So we went off to find the end of the line. And we walked. And walked. And walked. There must have been two thousand people in line! We could not believe it! We stood there for a minute, sweating and looking at each other. Mark took out the tickets and read them, then started smiling. They were good for two days! We had to get on the cruise ship in the afternoon on Sunday, so we decided we'd get up super early, get out to Battery Park and get in line before anyone else showed up.
So for the rest of the day, we wandered around, visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art, checked out the Castle and other parts of Central Park, and then headed back to our hotel. It was a great day, although really humid.
We stayed close to the hotel for dinner, eating at a place called Connolly's - an Irish style bar/restaurant. The food was great and the beer even better. It was a very good think we were walking!
