Cape Town, the last stop on this great journey, met us with astounding physical features and giant waves CRASHING loudly and stirring up the most beautiful mist !  We are in Camps Bay, a seaside hamlet which hosts the priveledged and fashionable. (And me, in all my dirty, wrinkled clothes...who cares!) We found ourselves faced with so many must-see options and so little time that we decided to take a helicopter tour of the cape peninsula. We flew directly over the President's country home in Constancia, SA and didn't even get shot down! We let Ian sit next to the pilot- what a thrill that was for him! We flew over the southernmost tip of the African Continent!

The mountains all have names, signal hill, Lion's Head, Table Mountain and behind our beautiful Guesthouse, The 12 Apostles. The owner of the Bay Atlantic, Bernie took us to see firing of The Noon Gun. This is a Cape Town tradition which has been observed since 1919. A cannon is fired at noon every day and the Capetonians observe 2 minutes of silence in remembrance and thanks to those who served in wartime. The journey to the gun was quite a memory- speeding to follow Bernie, ending up on the "old" road which was home to shantys and pigs, goats, and children playing in the muddy holes which rutted the road!  We were screaming in laughter at this unlikely adventure! The kids were dreading the 15 mminute lecture and boring trip they were expecting and it turned out to be a hilarious adventure!

We watched USA vs Algeria in a pub with a bunch of other Americans! Camps Bay was crawling with Brits and Portugese. We went to the V&A Waterfront where we found throngs of soccer fans, activities and the Fifa Store! Marcus was called to a stage to play his vuvuzela! See the video! Finally we went to a german beer hall in cape town with hundreds of other germans to watch the 3rd game. We had tickets to this game but chose to see Cape Town rather than travel more to Johannesburg for the game.
