Here we are, back to good old Honduras, just anyway!!
Am currently typing this from La Ceiba, the port for the ferry to Utila which we will riding tomorrow, we really cannot wait. Its now less than 3 weeks before we come back to England. It has come around far too quickly!!
You may have noticed the `just` in the title, well that will be because of our border crossing!! We left Livingston all smiles, took a 30 min boat ride and easily found a bus to the border of Honduras which took an hour. Dismounted the bus, confidently strode to the window, and get told we cant enter the country (but as you can tell by the heading and the map, this little story has a happy ending)!! You may remember the little trip we made to Guatemala City to renew our VISA, well that went smoothly. However, the rather fat men on the other side of the window were telling us that they should not have done that and we needed to go to either Mexico, Belize or Costa Rica for 3 days to then have our tourist VISAs renewed as Honduras, El Salvador, Nicuragua and Guatemala are essentially the same territory. An hour and many phone calls later they let us through.
Phew, the rest of the journey was really smooth. It involved 3 different changes of bus but all was well. Except some guy who was from Tela. I got talking to him and told him thats where we would be staying for the night. Big mistake as he then kept saying how he was going to take us on his boat and show us his village etc. A generous offer and if we had more time we would have accepted but unfortunately our time here is ticking away and we really want to go to Utila. We swapped phone numbers (we gave him the incorrect one) and gave him the slip finally. He just would not take no for an answer, we had no choice and no, we are not horrible people!!
We splashed out a little (literally) on a hotel with a swimming pool and air conditioning for the
night and it was worth every penny. Then next morning we got the bus here to La Ceiba where we await our ferry at 9 tomorrow morning. The next post you will get will also be from an Island (like being back in England, except cheaper and hotter, he he) which will be awesome so see you soon!!
Adios amigos!!
