Where I stayed
What an amazing drive! The drive between the Canadian border and the East Coast of Maine was gorgeous. The two-lane road went by pristine lakes and followed the river the entire way. We pulled off the road a few times for those photo opportunities
We spent the afternoon in Bar Harbor, viewing the water and boats, and driving around the island. We drove along the water near the center of the island - the homes were amazing and the views fantastic. I thought that's what the entire island would be! It seemed only a small portion was like that, though. The town of Bar Harbor was a fun place to visit. For those familiar with Michigan, it could be Petoskey! We stopped by two marinas on the island and the boats varied in size from small row boats to giant yachts. We spoke with a woman from Massachusetts at one of the marinas. She and her husband were on their 48 ft. sail boat, sailing to various destinations. She suggested a few places to visit and sites to see. It was very helpful because Maine is a little overwhelming! Tomorrow we’re headed down Highway 1 along the coast and we will stop in the Camden/Rockford area. That comes highly recommended!
We stopped at a local lobster shack on the bay for dinner. We compared this to Seinfeld's Soup Nazzi! Cars were parked on the side of the road as far as you could see and the line of locals and visitors was out the door
Jim decided that eating lobster was too much work! He needed a lesson from these two women on the best method to crack the lobster and find the meat. Of course, I had to cover the tray when the stomach was exposed and they said..."don't eat that!" Yuck! Jim decided to stick to cheeseburgers.
