So we arrived into Wellington at about 4pm after a 3 hour ferry journey between the islands. We have found a hostel in the city which allows vans to stay in the carpark and use their facitilies, so we are staying there rather than a campsite as they are quite a way outside the city centre. We didn't do much after arriving into Wellington just made some tea and went to the supermarket because in NZ unlike the UK everything shuts on Good Friday and we needed to get a couple of bits to see us through the weekend.

On Good Friday as all the shops were shut we wondered around the city. We spent the morning in the musuem, which is called Te Papa and its the biggest musuem in NZ I think. It was quite good and had lots of technology and cool exhibits. We then went and found a cafe and had a little snack. We then went back to the hostel to have tea, because we were going to watch the rugby at the Westpac stadium. It was the Wellington Hurricanes against Christchurch Crusaders. It was a good game ending in a draw at the last minute, once again Alex throughlyenjoyed himself. After the game we met up with a guy called Ben who is the son of one of Alex's Grandma's friends who immigrated over here. He picked us up and we had a few drinks back at his place.

On the Saturday we met Alex's Grandma's friend Kate in town, she showed us around Wellington. It was really good to be with someone who knows all the best places to go and see, we went up to the top of Mount Vic to get a good look out over the city, went on the cable car to botancial gardens where Kate brought us lunch which was very nice and we had a tour of the area Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings Director) lives and the studios which they filmed in. In the evening we went into the town to go to a internet cafe to update the blog so all you could see what we have been up to.

On Easter Sunday we left Wellington and headed north, we don't have as long in the NOrth island as we did in the south so we didn't have time to hang around. The drive between Wellington and the DOC sight we stayed at wasn't very interesting, the southern bit of the north island doesn't have as beautiful scenery as the south island does. We stopped at the Army musuem, Alex being a geek again and wanting to go-I got dragged around. We stayed in a DOC site in teh Kaimanawa Froest Park, it was quite a nice setting on the road to get there we went through the Desert Road, its not really a desert but looks like the surface of the moon very odd!
