We flew from Adelaide on the 23rd early in the morning, had to leave the hostel at 4.30am, the flight was at 6am so got into Melbourne at 8am. Lee and Kev met us at the bus station and we walked to the apartment. The apartment is very nice on the 24th floor. After getting settled in the apartment and using the much loved washing machine we all went to St Kilda which is the beach and walked along the beach and enjoyed the sunshine.

Chrsitmas Day was very strange! OUr family had sent out little packages so we had christmas presents to open which was lovely. It is not right being hot and sunny at Christmas. I got sunburnt-not impressive!! I really got my thighs and both me and Alex burnt our faces, I have permenant sunglasses on. We had a BBQ down at St kilda beach, had steak, sausages and burgers. Was nice but not the same as a roast!! Spent most of the day at the beach, came back to the apartment and called the family. Was nice to hear from them but made me miss home!

On Boxing Day we went to the famous Boxing Day Cricket Test Match at the MCG, Australia against Pakistan. Was a really fun day, Australia were batting, got to see 3 wickets and a few fours courtesy of Ricky Pointing. Alex throughly enjoyed himself and I think I did very well as I didn't read my book once and only fell asleep for about 15 minutes!

After Christmas went to a hostel in the middle of the City. Spent the rest of our time in Melbourne exploring the city. We did a few touristy rthings while we were here. Went up to the 360 observation Tower in the Rialto Building, which isn't the tallest building in Melbourne anymore since the Eureka Tower has been built, but was much cheaper than Eureka so we were there!! We also decided to take a river cruise, it was 2 hours long and really enjoyable, except for the heat. The day we did this trip it was about 38 degrees I thought I was going to melt. A 50cent McDonald's ice cream went down very nicely for both of us. Both mine and ALex's favourite part of Melbourne is Alexandra Gardens and the BOtancial Gardens. It is a very beautiful and quiet spot in the middle of a busy city. When we went there on the first day, a couple were getting married at the side of the lake, I can't think of a more beautiful location.

On New Years Eve we walked around the shops looking at the sales trying to find a bargain. It was too hot to do anything else. I found a pair of shorts for $5 (BARGAIN). We spent the evening with Jill, Kev, Lee and AMy in the apartment, Jill cooked us tea and we played poker. Unfortunately after such a beautiful (if rather hot) day, the clouds rolled in and it started to rain along with lightening. Both mine and Alex's attitude was though that we would probably never be here again on New Years Eve so we headed out into the street to see the fireworks. Which to be honest were not amazing but it was very busy so there was quite an atmosphere. We were both soaked through to the skin, as neither of us had a coat or umbrella so we had to peel our clothes off.

New Years Day was somewhat grey and cloudy, the top of the Eureka Tower was not visible at the start of the day. So we strolled around the Botancial Gardens and went and had Lord of the Fries, it was nice but couldn't lived up to the Captian Jaspers New Years Day tradition. New Years Day was our last day in Melbourne as we head down the Great Ocean Road for a couple of weeks on the 2nd January.

Overall we enjoyed Melbourne, thought it was a nice city, but it lacked the charm of Adelaide. Also rather unfortunately on the two evenings in which we needed it to be dry, Christmas Eve and New Years Eve it rained!!! I suppose it made it feel more like home though. We hope everyone back at home had a lovely Christmas and New Year in the cold, snowy weather just as it should be!!!

Hello!!!
Hope this finds you both well and not too sun burnt! As always extremely jealous when i read your blog. Sounds like you had a great xmas and new year despite the rain! The views you have taken are amazing and the gardens do look beautiful, very different from other places you have been.

Andy and Lotte are loving every minute of their travels however they have decided to move their flights forward to New Zealand by two weeks, think they have so much they want to do there they want to get a move on. Not sure if you were planning on getting in touch with them but just incase you were!

Everything good here, back to normal now the rain has washed away all the snow:( Have fun and look forward to your next installment!

Take care Cathxx
