Day 15
Thursday 24th November 2011
Caribbean sea to St Maarten

Same ritual morning start then breakfast and off we go to St Maarten. We docked at the cruise terminal alongside the Westerdam and Liberty of the seas but it was not crowded. The island had a nice feel so we wandered out of the cruise port and found some much needed wifi but sadly neither of the kids were around. Then we got a water taxi to the little town across the bay,
they have cleverly closed the port so it is impossible to walk and you have to pay for the taxi to literally hop you round the fence which would have been a 5 min walk. The town which has the aptly named front street, that's the one at the front with all the restaurants and a lovely promenade walk and then back street, the other one full of shops. There is also a long curved beach with loads of space, sadly as we had the iPads with us we couldn't swim. It's nice and friendly, not much hassling which is good. We stopped in the Buddha bar for an under whelming panini, which was a toasted sandwich. As they said they had free wifi but it actually belonged to the sweet shop down the street and we couldn't connect. So we sat on some stairs at the back of the sweet shop and managed to catch up with everyone. Then back to the boat quite early and a very nice sail away.

We had our first afternoon tea today which was entertaining, we were sat with a bloke and his mum (they were sharing a cabin), she was 75 ish and he lived at home. They were from Louisiana but she was born in Hendon. He was a little wierd, she was quite nice. They loved museums, and when they went on trains they always broke down. But the weather was good. They took 3 days to do the victoria and Albert museum, man that must have been dull!

The tai chi class is a bit large now so being a regular the instructor asked if I wouldn't mind being at the front so more people could see.

As it was thanksgiving we went down to the restaurant with our fellow diners but there was only a minor celebration and a turkey dinner. The pumpkin soup was the highlight. Sadly the conversation was poor again but we did learn that testosterone is a trial cure for menopause and Caroline overdosed on it, became ravenous for meat, had a strange fascination for breasts, and one night punched Jim in the face. Tina reckons that was just an excuse, he had it coming. More alpha kid stories.....plus the algae wrap horror in the spa which was why they never turned up the previous night. Sadly it's just dull and we are not looking forward to our next dinner.

Today we had five meals, breakfast, the Buddha lunch, afternoon tea, nachos (just discovered- big mistake), and a thanksgiving dinner. Pigs..... Not sure what has happened on this second half, did so well last week.  The scales are going to groan when we get home........ Luckily Tina is fully versed in the Dukan diet so we will get straight to it when we get back.  Also the deck was closed tonight due to exceptional high winds so we couldn't even walk it off. Went off to the 10pm show which was a singer called katrina rose, she was ok. Then it's off to bed
feeling sick.........
