Day 5 - Cody, ex-home of Buffalo Bill
Trip Start May 11, 2010

Buffalo to Cody
Moving on up, moving on out,
Still heading west towards Yellowstone Park. Checked the road opening times and it seems the one we need opened yesterday. They still have a lot of snow so hopefully we'll be fine, climbing to 10,000 feet through some of the passes to get through the park.
Holiday Inn was nice, breakfast good. We set out early, it was 120 miles as the crow flies but 180 miles by road going round the Little Bighorn Forest. Back onto Interstate 90 and then 100 miles or so later west on US14. The drive took us up 8,500 feet over the top of the range we had seen from the hotel
We stopped a few times for some pictures but I doubt they will do it justice. There were snow mobile tracks all along the mountain top which looked like great fun but we didn’t have a go. Passed through many little towns, the smallest we have seen so far was population 10!
Stopped for some lunch at Dirty Annies, Tina was hoping we weren’t lunch of course but everyone was very nice lol. Found some dinosaur remains apparently in the shop. Continued on till we reached Cody which is where Buffalo Bill founded a town. Also passing through and staying in Cody were Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, saw the little house they used to hole up in – so they say – in Old Trail Town. It didn’t look much like Little House on the Prairie and they certainly used antlers in all of their decorating. Special picture for Vicky called " Is it moose yet?". We avoided the dressed up people especially the ones walking round with spurs.
Off to wal-mart to stock up again, can’t eat out every night. Now just off to the town again to see what’s going down in Cody.
Hotel here is a “luxury lodge”, seems pretty good so far. 24hr gym – whoopee…. Room is nice and in the shadow of the mountains, different ones now – these are the ones in Yellowstone Park. No bears yet but we have seen a wood-chuck or something like a fat squirrel which seemed a bit sluggish and a (stuffed) bison and (stuffed) moose. No elk, maybe in Yellowstone.
Back from wal-mart with our provisions and a cold box. Had some tea indoors for a change. Decided to check out the hotel facilities today, maybe that gym after all.
Amanda – we are getting a tan after all! Weather is almost perfect touring weather so far except for the fog in New York.
