We arrived in Coos Bay around noon today and headed out to see a couple of lighthouses. We took the coastal road (Highway 101) to the Couquille Lighthouse which is in Brandon named after a town in Brandon, Ireland in 1873.   The lighthouse was first lit in February 29, 1896.  It is now powered by a solar light.

Next stop was the Cape Blanco Lighthouse, in Port Orford, so named because of it's 200 foot white cliffs.  It was first lit in 1870 and automated in 1980.  It only became open to the public in 1996.  When we arrived it was just as they were closing for the day and the wind was blowing so strong that I had to hang on to a light pole to take my picture. Larry was laughing when I got back into the car saying he should have had a picture of me trying to take a picture.
