We had a beautiful day yesterday, but our luck had run out. Today was going to be wet and cold. Oh well, can't expect perfect weather every day.  This time we took a van tour from the park so the guys would not have to drive into the city.  There were six couples so it was full; the driver was a native New Yorker so he knows the city.   It was a good way to get an overview of the "city".

We drove over the George Washington Bridge.  Our first stop was Times Square. We spent about 45 min there. This was fun since they have a place that you can stand in the middle of the street and see yourself on the big screen.  It was lots of fun.  As we drove to Ground Zero, we passed lots of places along the way like Central Park, Wall Street, Trump's buildings, Battery Park, etc.

Once we got to Ground Zero, Albert pointed out the Freedom Tower that is being constructed in the area.  As you might expect, the World Trade Center site is now little more than a large building site as they are constructing a memorial to the 2,750 men, women and children who lost their lives on September 11, 2001.  Taking a walk round the full perimeter of the site, there was really very little to see.   We saw Firehouse 10, the first responders to 9/11. We saw the firemen's memorial, the steel cross, the church (St Paul's Chapel) where firemen rested, and also has George Washington's pew.   The church was probably the place we felt the tragedy the most.

Then, it was off to New Jersey to catch the ferry to Ellis Island and Liberty Island.  It was very interesting to learn of the process the immigrants went through to get into the US. The Statue of Liberty is just one of those places you have seen in pictures and read about, but until you are there you don't realize how truly amazing it is.

Isn't the statue of Liberty just awesome? It is huge, when we were there we couldn't go up into the crown but oh what a site.
