Two weeks from today I will officially be in Haiti. This has been a trip that has been in the planning stages for me since December (although I have been contemplating this trip for over a year). One of my favorite quotes is "when I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say I used everything you gave me". I hope that working with others (children) is one of my talents and I hope to use this in Haiti. (I'm not sure they need my talents in reading, eating, and napping although I'm willing to share these too.) When I discussed going to Haiti over a year ago with Jane, she mentioned they would really like a teacher to go. I figured this was my chance to get "out of the box" and do something unique and challenging. As a person approaches middle-age (ack!) it's hard to know exactly where to focus your volunteer efforts. I already volunteer at my children's school and church. These are no-brainers! What else can I do, and how can I do it? These are questions I have been asking myself. I'm looking at my week in Haiti almost as an eye-opening quest to find these answers. Hopefully through a lot of hardwork, sweat, and being out of the comfort zone I will find them. If not, well then I'm hoping to at least sweat off a few pounds!

Larinda,
This trip will change your view of the world forever. You will never be the same again. You will recount the eye-opening tales with your children, students and grandchildren for many years to come. However, people will never be able to truly understand what you have experienced, seen and discovered. (Both in the world - and within yourself.) You are embarking on an adventure few will do. Go and sweat, laugh, love, cry and have the expereince of a life-time!
'Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did. So, throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.' - Mark Twain
