We arrived at the Dublin Airport early in the morning (unsurprisingly, as we were on a red eye trans-Atlantic flight).  I was surprisingly not tired and ready to go, but the Hertz desk didn't open until seven.  We made use of about twenty minutes to buy ridiculously expensive coffees and to change clothes.  Of course, it took too long so we missed the first Hertz shuttle to the rental car office (the rental car offices are off site--there is a desk in the airport and then you take a shuttle to the office).  After waiting in a long line and looking for the keys for entirely too long after they brought the car (they were tucked into the side door pocket), we were off at about 8:20am.

I drove the entire time in the trusty Nissan Micra.  It definitely did us well on this trip!  The first morning of driving was tough, but I had a pretty good grasp on it by Friday or Saturday.  I thought that it would be not as bad to drive in Counties Meath and Louth because they were close to Dublin and frequented by tourists--WRONG!  Most of it is countryside without a ton of big towns, so the roads were some of the worst on our trip (and the GPS was hopelessly inaccurate here).  All in all, we made it out alive--even if a little stressed in the beginning.
