(54) SEPTEMBER 5, 2009
WE DECIDED TO GO TO THE BBQ
COOK OFF IN BELL BUCKLE
TENNESSEE.   THERE WAS SOME
PRETTY GOOD BBQ AND BAKED
BEANS.  OUR SON AND DAUGHTER-
IN-LAW AND OUR LITTLE GRAND-
DAUGHTER RODE WITH US.  THIS
WAS A WONDERFUL SHORT TRIP
FOR US AND AN ADDED BONUS
OF THEM DECIDING TO GO.  WE
LEFT OUT AROUND 9:OO.  WE
STOPPED IN FAYETTEVILLE FOR
SOME BREAKFAST AT MCDONALD'S.
WE KNEW THAT IT WOULD BE AFTER
12:3O BEFORE WE WOULD GET TO
EAT. WE FIRST WALKED THE
SIDEWALK IN BELL BUCKLE.  THEN
FOUND THE COOK OFF BACK
BEHIND THE BELL BUCKLE SHOPS.
THEN WE BOUGHT OUR TICKETS.
GOT STAMPED THEN WALKED
AROUND THE GROUNDS.  IT WAS
FUN WATCHING THE CONTESTANTS
GETTING THEIR FOOD READY FOR
THE JUDGES. THEN IT WAS TIME TO
GET IN LINE AND PRESENT OUR
TICKETS AND EAT!  IT SEEMED THE
SERVING LINE CONTINUED FOR
ABOUT 40 MINUTES OR SO AFTER
WE GOT OUR FOOD.  THE LINE DID
MOVE PRETTY QUICKLY..  THE
MUSIC THERE WAS REALLY GOOD.
THEY HAD A CLOGGER GROUP AND
SOME PRETTY LITTLE GIRLS WHO
DID THE BEST OF THE BUTTS RAP. I
KNOW THAT THERE WAS AT LEAST
TWO MORE PLAYING AND SINGING
GROUPS WHO PERFORMED.  ALSO,
A VERY CUTE PINK PIG MASCOT
ROAMED AROUND FOR THE LITTLE
CHILDREN'S DELIGHT AND A BIG
SCARECROW WAS THERE WHO,
ALSO,  MADE THE ROUNDS.  WE
WERE IN LINE WAITING TO EAT
WHEN WE HEARD THE PIG CALLING
CONTEST.  WE DID NOT SEE THE
CONTESTANTS BUT IT FUNNY JUST
LISTENING TO THEM DOING THE
SOUNDS.  THE BARBECUE AND
FIXIN'S (BAKED BEANS AND
DESSERTS WHICH WERE MADE
WITH DICKELS WHISKEY) WERE
ALL SERVED IN LITTLE CUPS.
DRINKS (WATER) WERE COLD.
BELL BUCKLES SHOPS AND
STORES WERE ALL OPEN.  SO,
YOU COULD GET SHOP AND JUST
ABOUT ANYTHING YOU WANTED TO
EAT OR DRINK WHILE THERE.
MOON PIES: CHOCOLATE VANILLA
AND PEANUT BUTTER ,OF COURSE,
WERE THERE TO PURCHASE.  YOU
DON'T GO TO BELL BUCKLE AND
HAVE A MOON PIE WITHOUT A RC
COLA!   INSTEAD OF CHAIRS TO SIT
ON YOU COULD SIT ON HAY.  IT WAS
FUN TO DO AND REALLY CREATED
A GREAT ATMOSPHERE FOR
ENJOYMENT.  THE TRAIN WENT BY
A FEW TIMES.  YOU COULD HEAR IT
AND WE MANAGED TO GET TO THE
TRACKS FOR THE GRAND-BABY TO
SEE IT, AGAIN.  SHE LOVES IT!  SHE
DOES NOT TAKE HER EYES OFF OF
THE TRAIN UNTIL THE LAST CAR IS
GONE.  THE ENGINEERS ALWAYS
WAVE.  THE LAST PLACE WE
VISITED WAS AT THE BLUEBIRD ICE
CREAM PARLOR.  I ENJOYED A
CHOCOLATE MALT AND SWEETIE
DEVOURED A CHILDS CUP OF
STRAWBERRY AND CREAM...ICE
CREAM.  THIS LITTLE ONE JUST
SEEMS TO BRIGHTEN UP SO MANY
PEOPLES DAY EVERYWHERE WE
GO.  THANKS FATHER FOR ALL THE
TALENT THAT WE WITNESSED AND
THE GOOD FOOD WE ATE TODAY!
