We have Internet back now in the house so I can update with photos now!
Just got back yesterday from my last project with ACE at Parashant National Monument which is in Northern Arizona close to the north rim of the Grand Canyon.
We left last Tuesday to go to the St George ACE office to stay there for one night before heading to Parashant on the Wednesday. The reason why we stated in St George for one night was because Parashant is in the middle of nowhere! So it takes a long time to get there from Flagstaff, about 9 hours if you did it in one. On the way to St George we saw a wildfire which was burning pretty well and was cool to see even though it's not a cool thing to happen!
The closest city to where we were was St George which was a 3 hour drive away. We kept getting told throughout the whole project about the extra importance of safety because help is not close by!
We were repairing fences which was quite fun as it was my first fencing project. We were fixing broken wires, putting in braces, replacing fence posts and stretching loose wires. During the 6 days of work we repaired 3 miles of fence line. It was a really good last project, it was a great crew and went over pretty fast!
On the drive back to Flagstaff we stopped at Lake Powell to swim which was really good!
Got back to the office yesterday and I received my volunteering certificate and a letter of thanks from Barack Obama! Haha
Anyway I'm finished my time with ACE, leaving for Phoenix tomorrow lunchtime with Gilles, Linus and Andreas. Then heading to San Diego on Saturday for three nights before coming back to Phoenix on Tuesday to watch a baseball game and then coming back home on Wednesday for the 26 hour journey and arriving back home on Thursday evening!
