We arrived in Buenos Aires early in the morning, and were supposed to go visit and stay with my friend's aunt.

The twist... she didn't know we were coming, nor did she see my friend in 13 years, nevertheless bringing a friend (me).

We wandered about a bit until we ran out of patience at 8 in the morning, ventured over to her building and rang her apartment.  She promptly answered (sounded like she just woke up, but it could have been the intercom), and took her a few seconds to understand who she was talking to.  We went up, I introduced myself, and we met her beautiful daughter

Turned out the aunt is an English teacher, and the rest of the adult family spoke very good English as well.  My friend's cousin took us to a tour of the city, which was great since we had to rely on public transportation.  We walked around all over, got an explanation of what the sites were.  Especially impressive was the main square, Plaza de Mayo, and since Sting's "The Dance Alone" just came out it was even more impressive.

Later we took the aunt's daughter and her friend for ice-cream.  Let me tell you, I have never had better ice-cream and is still looking for Chocolate Rum Raisin flavor, but have yet to find it.

We spent several wonderful days in Buenos Aires, walking around the city, enjoying its parks, food and culture.  However, at the time the city, as the rest of Argentina, was expensive.  The prices were comparable to those in the United States, but the salaries were half, since we were on a budget (and a tight one) we couldn't afford to stay for too long.

Buenos Aires is also where we had our first (and not last) real Argentinean steak, were introduced to Argentinean beer and the flavors of the country thanks to my friend's family.

Overall:
Beautiful city
Beautiful girls
Good beer
Good food
Expensive
