We usually go every year to see the big tree in Rockefeller Center and have a day of roaming around New York City looking at decorations and store displays.  We decided on Monday because it looked like the rest of the week it would be rain and cold, yet Monday would be unseasonably warm (around 60 degrees).

We took the train to Penn station, we discovered that for $30 (kids don't pay on NJ Transit until they're 5 years old) round trip tickets you cannot beat the convenience of the train with two kids.  We could double-team the kids if needed and it is a special treat for them.

This year was especially nice because the movies "James and the Giant Peach" and "Madagascar" where still fresh in our daughter's mind.  She was looking forward to see the Empire State Building where James landed his giant peach (as if she hasn't seen it before) and Rockefeller center where the skating scene in Madagascar took place.

Once we got to Penn station we decide to walk the "almost" 20 blocks to Rockefeller Center since it was a nice day. We went by Macy's which incidentally (well, maybe not so "incidentally") was prominently featured in a Christmas movie "Little Spirit: Christmas in New York" which they sponsored and we watched, so that was another highlight for our daughter.

The tree at Rockefeller Center was as beautiful as ever, not as many people around which was just fine with us.  After taking a few mandatory photos we continued to walk around making stops at St. Patrick's Cathedral and looking at the window displays of Saks, Macy's and Lord and Taylor.
