One of the most popular attractions in New Jersey is Six Flags Great Adventure, a park filled with roller coasters, rides, Water Park and the largest drive thru safari out of Africa.  The park is obscenely expensive, so if you go more than twice a year it's worth to buy a season pass.
Luckily for us we had a company party in the park, which included everything except tickets to the water park.  The package included tickets to the park and tickets to the safari (combo ticket).  Parking and lunch were generously covered by the company.

We left early in the morning because we wanted to drive through the safari before the park.  The safari is very well organized and the animals are great.  Basically you drive around in a circle, at your own pace (or the pace of the car in front of you who won't let you pass them) and go through sections.  Some of the animals, like ostriches and giraffes, are walking around and others are behind cages or fences (lions, tigers, and bears ... oh my).

Our daughter, two at the time, had a blast seeing all the animals and recognizing them (even though every bird which didn't fly was a "duck").  We took her out of her car seat to sit in the front with us.  Every section of the safari there is an employee besides a gate so they could lock a whole section if needed.
We also saw private tours which looked like a lot of fun.
When we finished with the safari we stopped for a bathroom break (you cannot get out of the car in the safari) and to get some fluids; replenished ourselves and headed to the park itself.  We found a parking place and walked in.  The park itself is very nice, but be aware that not everything is included in the ticket, some rides you have to pay extra (and some are worth it).  Everything is clean, Looney Toones characters are out and about greeting kids and taking pictures, there is shade but the lines are long for the major attractions, especially on days when the kids are out of school.

There is a whole section for little kids, which is great because they can't go on the rest of the rides.  It includes a cheesy train ride some swings and other stuff.  There are many booths that you can play for extra money (like shooting galleries) and of course skill games you find at any street carnival.

At the time we visited the park was outfitted with Justice League theme, so you had the super heroes walking around, doing shows and taking pictures with the kids...seemed like fun and the kids really enjoyed it.

There is a lot to do, kids of all ages will enjoy the park and safari.

Overall:
- A lot of fun but very expensive, be aware of all the extra charges except the tickets such as parking and food.
- If you do get a season pass, bring lunch.  You can go in and out of the park as much as you want.
- Try to go when the kids are in school.
