After a breakfast of blueberry stuffed French toast we hit the road early under the gloom of an ominous looking cloud continuing our travels west. After driving through the darkness of the night before we were looking forward to seeing the waters of the gulf coast. Major disappointment as it was a sloppy, muddy, choppy mess. Our first stop of the day was in the stunning Panama City Beach. I say stunning with some sarcasm as it is the Benidorm of Florida, with high rise condos and miles of strung out shopping malls. However, it is a major spring break hub, and home to the largest nightclub in the USA, La Vela! Of course it would be inappropriate not to stop at 10.30 in the morning to chug a beer and wait out a T storm. It is not our fault it is 1so early, I entirely blame the time change as we go from Eastern to Central time for this behaviour. We had a chat with some of the bouncers and one guy from Alabama who was there trying to get a job. Although we didnt chat long we did find out he was not an Obama fan. Welcome to the South.
The rain was seriously torrential and we may as well have hired a gondolier to take us out of town afterwards. Water everywhere. On we head to Pensacola.
