Several weeks ago I was visiting beautiful Lake Powell on a several day houseboating adventure. My wife and I have some great friends who invited to stay on their boat. I'm an avid Lake Powell enthusiast and was excited to introduce my wife to the experience. We arrived in Page,AZ the night before our trip was to begin and had dinner at Los Delfinos - some fine Mexican food in Page and then spent the evening shopping at Wal-Mart to stock the boat with food and supplies for the week. The next morning we launched at Antelope Point Marina, all passengers aboard the boat as the driver snaked the trailer down the narrow launch ramp. Once in the water we headed uplake find an anchor spot in quiet Padre Bay - about 2 hours by houseboat. About 10 minutes into the lazy drive uplake my wife informed me that we needed to come to Lake Powell every year. Her conversion didn't take long! I'd love to tell you more about the drive, but it was a lazy drive while the passengers sat on top sunning and reading books. After finding our anchor point on Lake Powell in Padre Bay we spent an hour or so digging anchor holes and getting the boat snug and secure - kind of swetty work, but it's better than feeling the boat floating out into the bay in the middle of the night.
One of my objectives in the trip was a work assignment - photo this area Lake Powell for Offshore Marina, a Lake Powell Boat Rentals business located near Bullfrog Marina. It's all part of their development of a great resource for boaters at Lake Powell, the Lake Powell Guide online. Anyhow, one of the great opportunities was to photo Rainbow Bridge National Monument - this was amazing. Rainbow Bridge is one of the largest natural bridges in the world and is found at Lake Powell, a short boat ride from Bullfrog Marina or Wahweap Marina area (about 1 - 2 hours). I'm hoping the photos will tell the story for itself, but just imagine boating and hiking through the steep & weaping red rock canyons on a pristine early summer day - not too hot yet (it's usually above 100 degrees in the summer). The hike is only 2/3 mile from the boat dock, but winds up through the redrock until you reach the arch. Hope you enjoy...look for more Lake Powell posts as I grow my image library!
