We are now in Bucharest sitting in yet another huge thunder storm, clive has had a few washes this week. Bucharest was not much to look at, a lot of communist era buildings are still about, but a lot of scaffolding is up and I am sure things are changing. The guide book didn't suggest to much to see here, so we just wandred. It was a Sunday and nothing was happening, we didn't really get much of a feel for the city, but we only stayed for a few hrs so I can't really make judgement. The most impressive part was the parliament building that was built during the communist era as the building for the people (yeah right). It was a monster that at its highest was 12 floors high, and between this and the Champs de Elysee style street (that didn't work) a whole suburb was destroyed.

The currency has been changed in the last few years, a euro was worth around 368,000 a few years ago, so now the new one makes the euro worth about 3.6 Lei now. Even though this makes the economy seem to being doing well, there still seems to be a lot of poverty about, and as a taxi driver said the honest people aren't making the money. Despite this I have to say Romania is great, and we have had no problems at all, a must do. There are also meant to be lots of bears in the woods, we have heard stories from a few people but not seen any. Dave is very disappointed, I am rather happy not to have run in to a wild bear on the other hand.
