17/6-20/6

Free camping was allowed in Austria, so we stayed at a camper stop on the Danube. The Danube is a great river, and a very strange grayish white kind of colour. There were mountains in the background and it all made for a pretty place to rest and recover.
We looked around Melk the next day and wandered around the Monastery and the village. There were markets on, so we bought a few bits and pieces including some delicious biscuits. Just as we got in the car to drive away it started to pour down, good timing on our behalf. We followed the Danube down to another little town called Krems, the drive between these two towns was lovely and we saw plenty of vine yards and pretty villages and churches.

Our plan had originally been to stay in Vienna for a few days, we hadn't realized at the time that the world cup was going to be on, but when we found out we thought it could be fun anyway. Well what we hadn't counted on was that the price of accommodation was going to sky rocket, silly I know. After looking at two camp sites and realizing that both were going to charge us 40 Euros a night, we decided that we didn't want to see Vienna that badly.

We drove to another little town near the Hungarian boarder that night in a camper stop and had tea at a little café near by. They were playing the football so we sat and watched that before retiring for the night. Turns out Russia beat Sweden quiet convincingly; good old Guus Hiddink, Australia should have kept him.......

We have made our way to Hungary's Capital of Budapest, and have settled in a campsite right in the centre of town. It is expensive (25 Euros a night) but we get washing and internet included, and the 4th night is going to be free, so we are going to stay an extra night. The weather has certainly cleared up, it has been in the mid 30's for the past to days and we are both cooking! It is either one or the other, quiet annoyingly one of the draw cards to being in hungry is the thermal spas spread across the country, guess you don't need them in 30 degree heat!

We wandered around the city today which seems nice enough, the Danube runs right through the middle so you have Buda on one side and Pest on the other. The parliament house seems to be the major draw card, it is a great looking building. We walked up to the Buda castle today, and quiet unfortunately got fleeced by a street vender. I wont go into details because we are both annoyed and feeling very stupid, but we lost a bit of money and are now going to be living a bit cheaper to make up for it. Baked beans on toast, yum.....

We are thinking to head for a pool tomorrow to get a bit of sun and swimming and head out for more site seeing on Sunday.
