We had a big drive in front of us going in to Latvia, and as we got lost it took a lot longer then we first anticipated (damn sat nav)! We were heading to a place in the Gauja National park called Segulda. This is a very pretty part of the world, and the town had the nick name of the Switzerland of Latvia. Pine trees were everywhere and spires from old castles were poking up from between the trees. Our camp site was situated on the banks of the Gauja River and was very pretty. The bathroom was gross, but the site was nice enough to make up for it.
We met a few different people here, a lively German who was intent on showing me where everything was, and telling me how disgusting the showers were. We also meet an older couple form New Zealand (Invercargill) and an American and his New Zealander wife also much older
Today we explored the national park, and climbed quite a few stairs (more training....), saw more castles and great views. It was a nice day, and the weather was kind to us. It is a really pretty place and if you get to this part of the world come and spend a day. Compared to Estonia, Latvia is a lot more expensive. You have to pay for everything here, parking, internet, entrance to everything, so not Estonia.
We have made our way to Riga now and are in the City camp site, yet another basic place, but this one is much cleaner then the last. We have run into the lively German again, "Hello Australia" was his greeting, and after showing me yet again where everything was we have settled in for the night. Off to explore the city tomorrow.
