1/6

We left that afternoon to go to a little spa town called Druskininkai, not for the spas, but for a place called Gruto Parkas. A man who had made his fortune by farming mushrooms had decided to go around the whole country and buy Soviet memorabilia, such as statues and books etc. It was a very strange place, not put in a way to glorify the Soviet era, but more as a way to remember what it was like. It was weird walking around beautiful gardens looking at huge statues of Stalin and Lenin and hearing soviet music blearing from loud speakers. Guard towers were erected as well with barbed wire fences to resemble Gulag camps.

But not only did this place have a soviet area, It also had a little zoo. There were animals all the way from deer to Baboons. The enclosures were quiet small and did not look at all like the animals were being given enough to fill their days, but you did get to see them. There is no was you would be able to pull this off in Australia, we wondered how much he had to pay people to illegally steal them from Africa.
