We started our Denmark encounter with a small town called Ribe. This is one of the oldest town is Denmark and has a thriving Viking history. It is one of those old European towns with lots of small cobble stone streets and half wood houses, so very nice. We went to the tourist office and ask about a map and what we should do for the day. It ended up that we were there for the tulip festival, not much going on in the way of tulips, but lots of music and fair type rides. We also got told to visit the Viking centre.
After wandering around the town we heard some music and headed towards it. It was coming from a little bar with a huge beer garden our back. We got a beer each, gave them 10 Euros and got 3 Danish Kroner back (turns out 3DKK is not worth much), and stayed to watch the band.
That night we headed back into town to see the fair and they music which was meant to be very good. We didn't really see any music, and the fair wasn't all that interesting, being full of drunken teenagers. We spotted two people in yellow shirts holding trombones, and Dave asked them where they were playing , he didn't speak much English, but said they were a 'big band, very good' so we followed them.
There was a tent set up with a bar and lots of tables and chairs. There were a whole bunch of drunk military band people already there (good to see nothing changes) and we got a beer and settled in to watch the band. They weren't to bad, played some good charts and the singer was excellent, so we had a good night.
We were hoping to head to the top of Jutland, but we are a little behind in schedule, so it had to be missed L, instead we went over to Funen
The lonely plant had told us of a nice castle and its gardens to go and visit. It was called Egeskov castle, and sounded nice. Well our lonely plant is a little out dated, it was only meant to be 75 DKK, and instead we had to pay 120 DKK (about 12 pounds) each! It was very nice, a tree top walk, and a few different mazes, a castle and its mote, but for that much I wouldn't recommend it.
We are now in Skalskor on the island of Seeland, on our way to the island of Mon. Hopefully we will get an internet café soon so I can post this!
