The hostel in Porto was OK, but we were in a 10 bed dorm. Porto reminded me a bit of Lisbon, narrow cobble stone streets, tall flats, but it was a bit more derelict. We arrived about 6pm and were starving so went and got a cheap feed. That night we got talking to a Aussie girl (Fiona) We shared some drinks, and after opening a bottle of bubbly which just exploded (only undid the wire and the cork came out all on its own) some french Canadians and a Chilean girl came over for a chat, a nice night. This was probably the first place that it was really hot, so we easily only had a singlet and shorts on at night
Our day in Porto consisted of exploring the old town and Ribeira area. We went to a photo exposition on the history of Portugal which was really good. It was in an old Gaol which made things interesting. The river front was really pretty with old boats on it and a nice bridge crossing over it. We had a Pizza on the river front and then met Fiona for a spot of port tasting.
There seemed to be about 20 port tasting places with about half of these having free samples. Our favorite would have to have been Grahams which was right at the top of another hill. The view was great and the port was really nice, and we all got 3 glasses of port each! We went to about 7 different places before we were both hungry and tipsy, so we decided to go home. Another nice night in speaking to people from all over the globe, and then to bed to get ready for our flight to Madrid.
