Get ready, the stories are about to begin.

We made it to Prague.  The flight was uneventful, which is always a good thing when speeding through the air in something that is better suited to sitting on the ground.

Both flights were on time, Orlando to Atlanta then over to Prague.  The flight over to Europe was a longer one, 9 and 1/2 hours.  It gave us plenty of time to eat and then not sleep.  The meal was good but they didn't have express service this time.  So, you get course by course and it take over an hour - maybe more from appetizer to dessert.  The attendants were really good didn't take longer than needed.

I selected the movie Madagascar 2 to watch first.  Of course I would.  Comedy, not much of a plot and talking animals.  Right up my alley!  I do, however, think I saw my second cousin twice removed in the film.  I was wondering where he went. It was really laugh out loud funny for me, but then what isn't for me?

Anyway, the movie ended before dinner so I put on Slumdog Millionaire.  Some people claim the movie is great, and I think it one an Oscar, but I think it was horrible.  I turned to something else after about 15 minutes.  It basically is about slums in India, some monstrous man who mutilates children so they get more money when they beg and how one of these kids ends up winning the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire.  So, I turned on the Day the Earth Stood Still.  This was sufficient to make me want to try to sleep.

Now, it is really nice to travel in first class, so don't get me wrong.  But, for some reason the seat didn't recline nearly as much as other people's did.  I am sure I did sleep some, but each time I looked at my watch, only another 1/2 hour passed by.  I looked around and everyone else was all comfy and cozy on their seats which reclined much more.  I felt like getting up and walking up and down the aisles to wake people up.  However, I refrained from doing so.

So, about 6 a.m. Prague time - midnight at home - I think I find a comfortable position and can doze, and wouldn't you know it.  Some bozo in a window seat didn't put his shade down.  Light comes streaming in and everyone starts stirring.  However, Mr. Bozo continues to sleep.  I would have thrown something at him but the attendants were watching.

Soon orange juice is making its way around the cabin and breakfast will be served.  Soon after we are landing in Prague!  Excitement overcomes the lack of sleep.  However, by looking at the faces of everyone waiting for their bags, it doesn't look like I am the only tired one!

We collected our bags, nearly the last ones out but they arrived.  It took quite a while for the luggage to come out, but then realized it went through xray on the way to us.  Getting into Prague was quite easy.  Go through passport control - they don't even stamp passports anymore unless you ask - collect your luggage and exit through the door marked exit..  Fortunately this was in english, for the language here is nothing like anything I have ever read!  It uses those crazy letters.
Wild an energetic bunch, Prague, Czech Republic Out in the main terminal lobby we found an ATM - Bankomat - and got our first Czech Crowns.  Found the booth to rent a driver and car to take us to our hotel and we were on our way.  We found out about the car and  driver from TripAdvisor - thank you.  Only about $23 for both of us, and we were dropped off at our hotel door step.  We used to try to take public transportation, but decided this was so worth it.  Public transportation here would have been take Subway X to train station.  take bus Y to Tram 22.  Tram 22 to stop, walk up hill and you are there.  NO THANKS!!  Especially with a suitcase and a back pack.  this is the first time I am using a back pack.  Not so sure about it, but wanted something easy for getting on and off trains as this trip is all about train travel - but long distances - not three changes for 5 miles.

We drive through some country side, suburb sort of looking stuff and then up the Castle Hill to our Hotel.  Quite a nice location.  It shares common walls with the Strohov Monastery and is in amongst quite a few restaurants and one great one in particular.

We get to our room and want to collapse, and do for a bit.  It is only 11:00 am Prague time.  We sort of unpack and I look at the wrong face of  my dual time zone watch.  I suggest we wander to the Monestary and tour the libary.  Grab dinner and then get some sleep.  Well, my plan wasn't quite  what I expected.  We toured the monestary, toured the library and went to the best view in the city.  It is on the hillside overlooking the castle, the river and Prague.  We took the required pictures and I thought I was going to fall asleep standing on my feet.  We were going to eat but when I looked at the correct dial on my watch I saw it was only 12:30 pm.  Drat.  We weren't hungry and there was no way we would stay awake until dinner.  We went back to our room.  I think I fell asleep before I laid down!  When I woke up the first words out of me were "is it tomorrow yet?"  I called the front desk to see.  Nope, it was only 5 pm.  So out we went  for dinner to the restaurant with the fantastic view.  It was spectacular but freezing!  We finished and nearly ran back to the hotel.  Got ready for bed and the next time I woke up it was tomorrow!

Hello Diane!!
Hi Diane:
Still reading your blog, but thought I'd be the first to comment. So far it sounds interesting and it's fun to read about your trip. Feels kind of like I'm there. No way would I like all of that walking though. I can see why you practiced with all of the walking before you went! You missed a great party today at Jim & Linda's house. It was a celebration for his son whose submarine made it to harbor. There were about 30 people and we partied in the garage because a big storm came through. Thanks again for writing your blog. See you soon!
