We arrived in Uruguay by catamaran - great fun!  During the journey Camilla entertained herself watching the Crawley vs Man Utd football highlights and I distracted myself looking at the beautiful, shiny things in the Duty Free shop.  Yippee!

At Colonia port we were due to take a connecting three hour bus to Montevideo, the capital.  Unfortunately our interpretation of the ticket was slightly inaccurate so instead of connecting immediately, we ended up extending our journey by a further three hours.  Morale was "baja".

Uruguay was surprisingly expensive compared to the other countries we have visited so far.  I had no idea the Uruguayans lived so well.  The capital city was lovely.  Plus, something else we discovered, they are obsessed with football.  My mother definitely wouldn't be impressed.  My father would love it.

Originally we were not going to include Uruguay in our tour.  However, following the appalling weather we encountered through Peru and Bolivia we took the executive decision some beach time was required.  Therefore, when we arrived in Punta del Este beach resort town bikini'd up to the eyeballs, sun hats at the ready, it was rather inconvenient that it was pouring with rain and our sun cream was being blown off by the gale force wind.

The rain endured.

We left.  Hungover.

The night before we were due to leave we accidentally had a bit of a sesh and didn't fall into bed until 6am - a few hours before we were due to catch the bus to take us back to the port.

We didn't make it.  Sh!t.

We re-booked another bus for 3.30pm.  At 4pm, half way down the motorway, the bus broke down - just another day in the Lady LaLa and Queen Camilla Anne I's around the world bar crawl.

So, what did we learn about Uruguay? - don't squeeze the mangoes in the market to test for ripeness.

Next on the agenda, back to Argentina to finish off before going over the Andes to Chile.
