Where I stayed
What I did
After we finally figured out which spot was where our train is we got food. We were waiting for the bus to come pick us up and we got street food. I got these Chinese noodles and it was really good. But the bus driver was being so rude and wouldn't let us take our food on so we had to wait 20 minutes for the next one while people finished up.
Once we got to our hostel we all unpacked and got settled then headed downstairs to the bar that was part of the hostel. It was more of a nook with a beer tap haha but it was fun still with our group of friends. Our hostel was super nice and really clean. The only thing that sucked was the showers not being warm but that's standard for every place we stay haha I don't think I have taken a hot shower on the weekend this whole time abroad haha
The next morning we woke up early and began exploring the city...I wish I could move to Berlin. I could see myself living there for sure. It is so full of history but in a different way than any of the other cities we have been to. It is crazy the same concept of being rich of culture can be so diverse across the neighboring countries. Its not like in America where all the southern states have "similar" culture, its so different once you cross a boarder in Europe.
Going to the memorial was such a chilling and memorable experience. We got to see all the major attractions in Berlin and ended the day at the East Side Gallery. It was amazing but I thought there would be more about the history on the wall rather than just random paintings. We had this amazing lunch while sight seeing when we stopped in this random German resturant. The people were so friendly and I got mashed potatoes and sausage with onion sauce. It was soo good and tasted like something my parents would make for sure. I literally wanted to lick my plate clean hahah later that night we went out with the other group of people from my school that came to Berlin too and it was a lot of fun. We went to club soda and danced all night.
The next day we got to spend in Berlin still! Normally we spend all day Sunday riding the train home but this time we booked a night train and I liked it! Everyone only had bad things to say about taking a night before we took ours but I didn't hate it. I took melatonin and slept most the time. The wake up by the conductor at 4am wasn't the best but that was the only thing that was unpleasant. Anyways, with our extra day we went to the zoo! It was so much fun and way bigger and better than the zoo in cologne. THE LION EXHIBIT. O.m.g. It was my favorite part for sure. They were huge! And so close to us! But we were at the zoo all day until we had to go back and get our luggage to catch the train and it was well worth it. I definitely would recommend everyone goes to Berlin one day and see the wall, read about the stories of the people who went through the holocaust in the memorial's museum and eat tons of German food... its delicious :)
