This is a nice beach area on mainland Thailand, and a jumping off point for dive boats to Similan Islands.  We thought about doing a dive trip there but it was really pricey.  So we just hung out in town.  We stayed at Fasai Guesthouse, which is a great deal, except the reception speaks basically no English so good luck trying to make reservations on the phone! 

The weather was terrible for the 2 days we were here, rained both days.  What is with all this rain??  Anyway that night was New Years Eve so we ended up partying at a place called Happy Snapper.  It was a bunch of bands all night and a great crowd.  We planted ourselves on a couple of barstools and never got up the whole night! 

One thing that really annoys me about new years eve, and actually many people did this on x-mas eve and day, was light off these giant lanterns.  They are small hot air balloons with lots of candles in the bottom of a paper balloon.  They get enough hot air and take off into the sky over the ocean.  Apparently they are "wishes" but they look a lot like "litter" to me.  These tourist should know better!  There are big metal rings in the bottom and I just imagine birds eating them and fish getting stuck in that.  There were thousands(!) of these floating around just in the town we were in!  So bad!
