So last entry we were somewhere in this crazy country being stared at, whistled at and generally trying not to be screwed over due to the colour of our eyes and the country we came from.
We ended up staying in Trinidad for almost a wk.. it was so chilled and with live afro-cuban music each night, clubbing underground in a cave! and many a pina colada to be had, we left for some more exploration. It was a nice change tho to be in one place for a while. Even though we didn't see much of the actual town.
So we left for a town called Santa Clara where we met some Rasta's who were very cool and sweet and did some more Che site seeing and got to enter a cigar factory where the worlds best and most expensive are made.. Little Charlie was the biggest winner, getting given Monte cristo's and Cohiba cigars for free! Now she won't even let us smoke them! That was a great experience and everyone has been so lovely here.
We got to check out some live music in this grand old theatre by this great Cuban artist and then headed to our pinnacle destination of Remedios for the infamous Xmas festival.
Cubans don't really celebrate xmas but on the 24th of dec every year a renactment of a battle between two towns commences .... it is done so with 24hrs of what could only be called dodgy and purely dangerous fireworks..
We got prime position (as our house was one block from the action) and got a roof top to watch the insanity. To watch this was out of this world, never ever in our worlds, would this be permitted.. they literally wheel massive truck like carts out into the plaza, lighting the wicks with their cigars and fire them off into the crowd... INSANITY.
Even from the roof of our house one block back, several times we had to run for our lives to escape missile like explosives headed for us!
It was a great experience and one we will never forget.
Now for mexico again!
