We booked into Bohemia for one night as we had the next 2 nights booked in Nomads Esplanade which was more central to Cairns. We paid $22.50 per person per night for a double in the nomads hostel, which is cheap been as the average nightly rate is between $25-$30, the hostel was not nice at all, it was dirty in the rooms in the communal kitchen area. When we got to our room we even thought they had not made up the room ready for us as the bedding was just chucked on the bed as if it had been slept in the night before and not changed! We were glad to get out of this hostel to say the least. On a more positive note the staff there were very friendly and helpful, i think the main problem was that they were very under staffed and maybe thats why the hostel was unkept. This goes to show that if a hostel is cheap its usually for a reason!
We were in Cairns from Sunday night to Wednesday morning and so used the time to sunbathe and to book a sailing trip to the Whitsundays and another trip to Rainbow Beach and a 4x4 driving trip on Fraser Island. We booked both trips through Travel Bugs, we had previously been advised that they offer the best deals for trips on the East coast, they did offer us very good deals and even halfed the price of the whitsunday trip for us and also give us a load of vouchers to have free stuff as we travel south.
