Wow, I'm here in the capital of Guinea.  It's amazing but not what I expected at all.  We are spending the first couple days in a compound in the captial city of Conakry.  I live in a room with 7 other girls, on a bunk bed with mosquito net.  I already have 3 bites.
The food is pretty good.  We eat a lot of chicken and fish and of course rice.  What we had for lunch today was similar to couscous, so of course, I loved that.  They drink coke out a bottle and use real sugar instead of corn syrup so it actually tastes better.  But I have yet to find Dr. Pepper.
A lot of the volunteers have already gotten sick. I am not one of them, yet (knock on wood).  I try to keep my hands very clean.  I'm religious about putting antibacterial stuff on my hands all the time.
We started language training today.  I tested into the Intermediate-Medium level of French. So I got to start Sousous training today because that is the language of my host family for the 9 weeks of training.  Only the dad is supposed to speak French so if I want to talk to anyone else it has to be in the local language.  It's pretty complicated.
Other than that, they keep us pretty busy with cross-cultural courses and getting shots (I got two today and one yesterday and more are on the way!) My arms are sore.  Well other people are waiting for the computer so I need to get off soon.  I'll try to update pictures before I leave on Saturday.
