(Rouen-Paris-Lille-Calais-Dover-London)

London, England

Day 1: Arrived late due to ferry mishap. Walked through busy downtown London in the dark trying to find our way. We stayed at the Oxford Hostel in SoHo. Actually saw a street vendor get robbed.

What was said: "This kinda feels like first class." -Kyle, upon entering our first train.

Day 2: Walked to Hyde Park and ate muffins for breakfast. Laid in the grass and watched the world go by. Saw lots of birds and even swans. Saw an old woman in a fancy hat ride through the park in a glorious carriage, escorted by police...Could it have been the Queen? Visited the Natural History Museum and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Continued walking on to Buckingham Palace where we saw a long line of guests (ladies in hats) waiting to enter. Fell asleep in Green Park, next to the Palace. Walked to Harrod's-extremely busy. Apparently the "only sale of the year" was taking place. Shuffled past designer bags, sunglasses, jewelry, fragrance, and then out the door. Cooked dinner at the Hostel. Really terrible peppercorn sauce that ruined everything. Barf. Only thing saved was my personal tub of yogurt, Scottish clover honey with crystallized ginger.

What was said: "I see you shakin' that ass." -A construction work to me (???)

Day 3: Kyle cooked breakfast and then we took the tube to Thameside Hostel. Got lost trying to find at, asked several locals for help. Turned out to be a much nicer hostel, but about an hours walk from the city. Rested up and walked along the Thames in the evening. Ate Indian food near the Tower Bridge. Criss-crossed lots of bridges in the heart of the city.

Day 4: Enjoyed a large complimentary breakfast at the hostel. Visited the Tate Modern Art Museum. Chic! I liked the video installments best. Could have drowned in the awesomness of the gift shop items. Walked along the river near the London Eye, saw several impressive street performers. Donated some change to svelte man who balanced ever-spinning glass balls all along his arms and back. Clever. Walked home and ate a really good meal at a Chinese buffet. So much walking today, about 10km.
