So after getting no sleep in the hour leading up to my alarm going off, I ended up falling asleep as soon as I pressed the snooze button!! Argh!
So after a snooze or two, we got up and got ready, finished packing, then Pancho and Nina arrived. Pancho worked out how to get Lars' printer working so I could print our boarding passes, then we grabbed our bags and jumped in the car and started the hour and a bit drive out to Düsseldorf airport.
Nina had brought a thermos of coffee, which made her a champion, so I got a cup of coffee to help wake me up, then when we arrived we went and lined up for the check in.
After being in line for ages, and waving goodbye to Pancho and Nina, we got to the front, and found out we were in the wrong line!!
So we had to go back out and find the check in section, which luckily had no line, then got to check in. We took the guitar to the 'oversized baggage' section, even though its tiny as, then walked with Pancho and Nina back to the big line again.
We said goodbye again, then got to the front of the line again, waved goodbye to them, then got through a very easy security and made our way out to the gate.
There was one more passport control section, where I tried to ask about how many Schengen days we had left on our visa, which seemed a very confusing question for the man there! I think I'll just work it out later!!
We got some snacks then spent some time rearranging our bags so they would fit in the little box, as last time we flew with Ryanair, they made us put the bags in the box to prove they fit!
We lined up to board the plane, and didn't even have to prove the bags fit, then headed out to the plane and found ourselves a seat. (We even got one together, even though we were near the end of the line!)
Then we settled in for our two hour flight to Croatia!
I got some of the prettiest plane views I've ever seen out my window, which included some amazing cloud formations with snow capped mountains pushing through them, then after a quick snooze we landed in Zadar, Croatia.
As we got off the plane, we saw our guitar come out of a different section, so were able to grab it without having to worry about waiting forever at the baggage claim terminal! Score!
We left the building, got some cash out and exchanged the rest of our euros into Croatian kunas, then jumped on a bus to take us into the old town of Zadar.
The weather was not our friend, it was cold, windy and rainy as we made our way through what were probably very pretty streets on nice days, stopped by a souvenir shop for directions then found our hostel and went up three flights of stairs to check in.
We got a map and got shown where the sights are, then dropped our bags in our room (we were really early too, but were still able to check in! The glory of the off-season!) then went across the road to a little bakery for a pastry each, before going back to the hostel to eat.
We made up our beds, then fell into them for some sweet sweet sleep!
When we woke in the late afternoon, we decided to go for a walk out of the old town and across the bridge to a big shopping mall that had a cinema.
The movies here are in English with Croatian subtitles, so we thought we'd have a relaxing night and see a film.
We bought tickets to Galaxy, in 3D, which only cost us 40 kunas each (~$8), then went downstairs to a supermarket for some snacks.
We got some food, and Darren got some beers, (which I hid in my handbag) then we went back to the cinema and headed in to our seats, which at this cinema are designated seats!
I really enjoyed the movie, it was very real, and felt like the actors were real people. They had real reactions to things, rather than movie reactions which I thought was cool. It was a clever movie, with most of the film with just one scene and one actor. It was great!
Darren didn't enjoy it as much as me though, but I would recommend it!
After the movie we walked back to the old town, and had a look at a few restaurant menus for tomorrow, before stopping for some fries at a takeaway shop then heading back to the hostel.
We had a chat with the girl on reception, Sara, for a while about a few different things, including a few things about the Croatian lifestyle, (like the national sport of coffee drinking!) then after she told us she'd be making real Turkish coffee in the morning we headed off to bed and used the wifi for a while before going to sleep.
