So since I last wrote yesterday, I feel like a woman of the world! (No, not in that way!)

Yesterday afternoon after the internet cafe, I took some time to check-in to my room. It's an 8 person hostel: 4 bunkbeds that look like prison cells and a sink for washing hands/brushing teeth. It doesn't have a lot of space, but that's OK cause all we're doing is sleeping. It wasn't a full room and I knew 5 other people in it (plus one random person) since the other 5 people were Amanda and Catherine, plus 3 Austrailians she became friends with on her 2 week trip around Europe. Glen and Jaime (guys from Australia) plus Kiwi (her real name is Maria, but since she is from New Zealand they all call her Kiwi...no idea why lol) were our other "mates" and we all hung out in the room for awhile because we were all tired.

Around 17:30 (at which time I still had not slept) we decided to go to a 8£ walking tour. We left and it was pretty hot for London standards and went to the tube to go to Tower Hill where the tour began. The tube was pretty eventful for me; it reminded me of Narnia because of the scene in the second movie where there is a fight around the tube. Anyway, it was pretty cool to see but it did indeed smell like piss. It reminded me a bit of NYC underground in the sense that it was very dirty. But there were a lot of business class people on it so I felt safe--it was very crowded because it was rush hour.

When we got off the train, we walked and found our tour group. Our group leader, Ed, was AMAZING. He was only 27 years old and had 2 masters degrees in History from Oxford--he said he couldn't do anything else so decided to give history tours of London. Sounds like my dream job if you ask me =) Anyway, the tour was great and Ed was highly entertaining. He told tons of stories about all of London's past and the interesting characters that were in it. He took us by the London Tower and told stories of people being be-headed as well as talked about architecture and random pubs that were good. It was a great time as it allowed me to see parts of London I probably wouldn't have seen otherwise because in addition to doing the toursity things (I saw London Bridge!!--gorgeous!) we went into the business district. This part of town is all new buildings and very fast paced-everyone was just getting out of work so it was very busy and had an electric atmosphere. Apparently Thursdays are a choice day for drinking because all of the bars and restaurants in that area were packed! Tons of people dressed up and talking of business were enjoying pints and hanging out so it was neat to see.

After the tour it was close to 21:00 already and since I still had not slept I was exhausted, so they took pity on me and decided to grab food to go and eat it back at The Clink. We took the tube back, and stopped at a quick fish and chips place. Although I do want to eat fish and chips at some point, I decided it looked too greasy for me and I was just hungry so I ordered a veggie burger. It was pretty good--definitely not a gormet meal.

Once we got back to the Clink, I wolfed down my meal and said my goodnights because I couldn't stay awake any longer. At that point I had been awake for more than 24 hours so it was definitely bed time! I then walked upstairs and passed out for 10 hours and it was glorious!

Today I then woke up and grabbed some free breakfast of cereal and toast and then decided to write on the computer while waiting for Amanda to get dressed. The rest of our group went to Stonehenge today but we decided to do it another time because we wanted to hang out together and explore London.

So now Amanda and I are off to explore! I think we're going to Kensington Gardens and Palace..but who knows! We shall see =)

They call her Kiwi because that is the nickname of all the national teams of New Zealand. I think it is a bird that lives there. Sounds like you are having a blast and you better prepare yourself because I want to eat a lot of fish and chips.

Glad to hear you got some sleep. I am sure you'll have plenty of gourmet meals when FoodieBrett joins you :) The history tour sounds like your cup of tea. Hope you and Amanda see lots of interesting sites. Oh, and Brett is right. The kiwi is a bird - a flightless one- indigenous to New Zealand, but she could also be named Kiwi because of the fruit ;) Keep on blogging!
