Since the weather was so crummy the day before, our site seeing plans were pushed to today. We meet down in the hotel lobby bright and early to experience our first real tourist activity. Our first stop was going to the Peak Tower, a tall mountain over looking the city of Hong Kong and the Victoria Harbor. We rode the Peak Tram up a VERY steep incline to the top for some pictures; unfortunately the weather was overcast (again) so we couldn't see past the city. There were battle ships in the harbor, which was really cool to see; it was the first time I’ve ever seen something like that.
After the Peak we went to the "fisherman’s village." I was picturing something similar to the fishing villages in Greece however this was a ton of fishing boats all strung together down the center of the river in between Hong Kong and the New Territory. We took a small wooden boat around for a tour where we were able to see the largest floating restaurant (shown in a Jackie Chan and James Bond movie). One of the girls in my group dropped her cell phone in the water trying to take pictures. The price of the boat tour was similar to a small coffee from Starbucks (which there are tons of here.)
After our boat tour we went to a Chinese sanctuary where there is a “happy Buda” (yes I rubbed his belly for good luck), a large dragon (yes I rubbed his tongue for good luck), a large standing Buda and other temple like structures. This was the most fascinating thing I’ve ever seen. Everywhere you looked there were pearl necklaces, incents, and people praying. The area was not large so everything was next to each other. There were so many sizes of Budas, dragons and fish littered everywhere. This area was right on the beach over looking some smaller islands and a water park. On our way to our next place we saw Jackie Chan’s house.
The final stop of the day was heading to Wang-Jiao Market. Unfortunately I did not bring my camera (and immediately regretted it). The marketplace was a small road filled with fruit shops, electronic shops, clothing stores and stands selling touristy stuff such as postcards and knockoff bags. They even had a pet shop where I was able to buy Charlie a lovely Chinese silk shirt.
After our shopping was complete we headed back to the hotel to pick up our luggage to head to the airport to go to Shanghai.
