Today we left Amsterdam and went to Brussels. As we were pulling into the town our bus got stuck and the driver told all 5 guys to help him push a car out of the way. Now we have a skinny gay guy, a short guy, a tall lanky kid and our driver who had a mullet and beer belly. It was very interesting to watch them try and lift the back of the car to move it. Naturally it didn't work and the owner came out and moved his car. After we settled into our hotel Paige, Andi and I walked around the Grand Place, eating our walk down the street stopping at every chocolate store along the way. We also went to the Manneken-Pis (the pissing man? Or the cool little guy?) Which was a small bronze statue of a urinating child. No one knows when he was first placed there but sometime around the 8th century. In 1817 he was stolen by a thief who was sentenced to a life sentence in jail. King Louis VX of France began the tradition of dressing him in colorful costumes. There is even a museum dedicated to his (over 800) costumes. He had Santa suits, easter bunny, an Elvis Presley outfit and many more. He is one of the important figures for Brussels, while he is portrayed in chocolate form all over the city, he is only about a foot tall. After seeing him we went to T Kelderke for a traditional Dutch dinner right in the center of Grand Place. For dinner I must have had about 60 mussels in a celery, onion and kelp broth.
