Today the Global Learning Semesters (GLS) went to Lefkosia or the "Old City." It was build many moons ago and used to (and still is) a town surrounded by a giant (i mean 150 feet thick) brick wall. It is located right by the green line which is where the UN has divided the Turks and the Greeks. We walked around and saw an old orthodox church and learned some fun facts such as 5 domes in a church are very rare and we learned the reason why there are arch ways. We also saw a fresco church where the arch bishop lives and a site where they were going to build the new city hall but because they found medieval stuff so they were unable to continue until they have finished excavating the site. We walked around for about two hours until the bus brought us home. It was a lot of fun. It would be a great place to go back and walk around and take pictures.
