So this is my second attempt at this journal entry since I lost my work just 5 minutes ago!

Today was extremely sentimental! Last day of the trip as well as the last day in Mexico City. I didn't know how to feel upon waking up. What I did know is that I HAD to make this day the best of my life. It will be awhile until I was back here again. Daniel and I decided that today would be good for visiting the Zocalo to buy souvenirs. Upon arriving to the Zocalo, we found more than we could ever have dreamed of! Not only were there several tents housing souvenir vendors, but there was also a perfomance on the main stage! We were so lucky! And it didn't cost a dime! There were these 2 kids staging a fight on the main platform while people beated on drums in the background. They were all dressed authentically in ancient Aztec attire. I love culture!! I think I have said this SEVERAL times before. :) It is just so refreshing to know that we can still celebrate the cultures of the past. It's like history resurrected!

While Daniel watched the remainder of the show, I searched for souvenirs and gifts. There are so many people who are special to me....this meant I had to take out more money. :) But you guys are worth it! It was SO fun shopping for gifts. I felt so good about supporting these local vendors who hand crafted most of the products they were selling. I was of course careful to only purchase from people I felt had made their products themselves. You never know...but I used my instinct. Apparently some people get their products from the black market at ridiculously low prices. Some people were even making a business selling burnt CD's... on the street of all places! CRAZY! It's hard to judge though...what they are doing is completely dishonest/ a crooked business, but when you figure some have kids who need food in their bellies, you find yourself a little more understanding. It's funny because the Mexican government has "illegalized" selling goods in the streets, yet people do it anyways. They know it's a necessary way of life for some people.

We spent literally ALL day buying things! there's not much else to say about today' events. Finally, we returned back to the hostel to find everyone lounging out in the lobby. I had this great conversation with this English lad named Tom. He said I would "love" London. Him and the girls he is travelling with are coming to San Diego in a couple of weeks! I am going to show them around. :)

We left the hostel and headed for the airport at around 5 pm. We had to say farewell to Mexico and the rest of Latin America. :( It is both a sad and happy moment for me. I am sad to be leaving, but so happy that I was able to have such a life changing experience!

To all my Latin friends...farewell! I will see you soon!
