On Wednesday November 2, I got to go to my first European soccer match with my roommate, Will, and our friend, Jason, from Singapore. It was a night game with Ajax Amsterdam playing against Dinamo Zagreb, and I had a great time. Obviously, I rooted for Amsterdam since I live here.

On the way to the match, we rode the Metro, and it was absolutely packed. Everyone was heading to the game. I felt like I was back on the Metro in Washington before Obama's Inauguration. Amsterdam ArenA was huge - it has a parking garage underneath and escalators to take you in.

Before the game, the whole stadium waved small flags provided by the stadium to music, which was one of my favorite moments of the night. I took my flag home as a souvenir. There was also a section close to us in the corner that went crazy chanting and waving huge flags the whole game. It was a fun atmosphere to be in, and even though I had no clue what they were chanting because it was in Dutch, I had some of the chants stuck in my head when I tried to fall asleep that night.

In the first 20 minutes, Amsterdam was up 2-0 and they ended up winning 4-0. Even though it wasn't a close mach, I still had fun. It's always a good night when your team wins. Amsterdam did a good job of controlling the game. I think we had possession of the ball for 60% of the game.

We have tickets in December for Ajax Amsterdam vs. Real Madrid. Real Madrid and the Ajax are number 1 and 2 respectively in our division of the Champions League, so it should be a good match. I'm can't wait to get to see Real Madrid!
